We are very honoured to have a number of our industry leaders, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to our panels.  They all come from different industry sectors, yet they all share the same vision of promoting best practices.

Annette Mulligan

NZ Spa of the Year

 

Having trained at the Joyce Blok Institute 30+ years ago, Annette began her career in New Zealand before heading to Australia and then onto the UK.  Spreading her skills across salons, gyms and also working for herself, Annette was then employment by the NHS.  This was to provide electrolysis treatments for two days a week which is where she became inspired teach.

Annette then began teaching and writing Beauty Therapy, at The College of North West London and Barnet College.  She then returned to New Zealand in 2005 with a husband and 1 child (with 2 more to came along).  Upon returning she  took a position on teaching at The College of Beauty Therapy (now Face & Beauty). After her  last child she took some time off before starting a new teaching position at Elite School of Beauty & Spa (part of the UP Education Group). In 2017 moving into a resource development position, Annette was involved in creating the new NZQA Beauty Therapy qualifications Level 3 - 5 for Elite.  Annette is currently now developing and creating resources across a few professional brands.

NZ Nail Technician of the Year 

 

Trained in the UK, and emigrating to NZ in 2006, Cheryl’s extensive career in the Nail Industry has covered many facets within the past 20 years. It has touched ever corner of the industry from Beauty Clinics, Health Spas, Cruise Ships to owning her own Nail Salon.  Self-confessed OPI addict she is an International Ambassador and Educator and National Education/ Area Manager for Nails for CS & Co based in Auckland.

Debbie Challis

NZ Cosmetic Tattooist of the Year

 

Initially undertaking Cosmetic Tattooing training on the Gold Coast in 1992, Debra has over 30 years’ experience in Cosmetic Tattooing industry and has seen the industry evolve from very basic techniques in the early days through to the incredible skills available to artists today.

In more recent times Debra has been creating a professional range of products and pigments for artists throughout NZ and Australia and is proud to be the exclusive distributor for LI Pigments (USA) products and Monica Ivani Pigments within New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

Debra continues attending advanced trainings both locally and internationally to stay up to date with the most current techniques and still enjoys providing brow, eyeliner and lip services, along with saline removal and, of course, training and mentoring.

NZ Nail Technician of the Year

 

I have been in the nail industry for the past 20+ years and hold more than 50 international certificates and in 2006 NZ Nail Academy was born.

 My focus is to provide superior service; ongoing support with products and education of an unparalleled standard.   I am always striving to do better and I do believe that knowledge is power. I am continually updating my skills so I can pass that knowledge onto my education team who can then provide the NZ nail technician with the most up to date techniques learnt from the very best in our industry.  

 I love to see others achieve so much from their hard work; it makes me proud to have past students end up in a new career that they can enjoy and be passionate about as much as I am.

Donna Hayes

NZ Student/ Apprentice of the Year 

 

With a strong passion for our industry, Donna commenced her journey in 1985 training in Beauty Therapy and Nail Technology.  After owning numerous clinics in Christchurch and training as an OPI Educator, Donna has now relocated to Auckland where she owns L’accent Beaute on Waiheke Island.

My passion for the industry never diminishes, I love the results that are achieved and driving my staff to be the best they can is exceptionally important to me. Watching young people progress their skills is particularly rewarding."

Emma Fraser

NZ Nail Technician of the Year

 

Emma has been in the Nail Technology industry for over 13 years, owning a Nail salon who employs Qualified Technicians and Beauty Therapists.

For over 9 years Emma has also been involved in teaching to NZQA standards within a private training establishment which lead her to be involved in the Targeted Review of Qualifications and a part of the HITO Industry Advisory Panel for Nail Technology.

Emma is an active member of the NZARP Executive Committee holding the Nail Portfolio.

NZ Student/ Apprentice of the Year 

 

 

Gaius has been a qualified Beauty Therapist, Electrologist and Trainer for many years.

Juliette Miller

NZ Cosmetic Tattooist of the Year 

 

A Beauty Therapist, Make-up Artist & Micro-pigmentation Technician, Juliette who trained at the Beauty Base London has 22 years experience in the Beauty Industry. Gaining huge insight into the European Micro-pigmentation Industry and being personally trained by Tracey Simpson, Natural Enhancements managing director, Juliette returned to Auckland in 2010 to start up Perfection Enhanced.  This was with the view of bringing her skill, knowledge and passion for Permanent Make up to the women and men of New Zealand and to train aspiring micro-pigmentation technicians.

Kim Ryan

NZ Most Promising Therapist

 

Kim has been in the professional beauty industry for 25+ years and has enjoyed seeing the evolution of beauty products and technologies over this time.  Kim distributes a number of Advanced Cosmetical Skin Care Brands in New Zealand, providing education and support under the Advanced Derma Care umbrella.   Kim joined the Executive Committee of the NZARBP (The New Zealand Association of Registered Beauty Professionals) to give back to the industry and provide guidance and support to students and new graduates - ensuring they are working to the highest standards from the beginning of their career. Kim is enjoying working with a team of like-minded individuals, bringing the best to the industry through positive education and guidance.

NZ Most Promising Therapist

 

Leanne brings an international flair to teaching, training and upskilling the best hands in the business. Utilising her professional skills in the UK as a qualified Skin Therapist and Trainer, in Canada as National Education Manager, and the USA as International Education Manager for Latin America and the Caribbean before eventually returning home to New Zealand.  Based with Skin Health Experts, (NZ distributor of Dermalogica) she currently heads up Sales and Education, with her extensive experience, particularly with Dermalogica.  With her history of working in the industry around the globe, she is also often consulted for her unbiased opinion on skin care, which has also enabled her to work with IDI international locations worldwide including the U.S.A., United Kingdom and Canada.

Lorraine Lindsay

NZ Tutor/ Trainer of the Year

 

Lorraine’s journey started with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from Otago University followed by four years teaching at Papakura High.  With Europe calling she worked in the UK for five years which included six months working at  Britain’s top Spa and Health Retreat, Henlow Grange.  She was the morning exercise coach but helped out the Spa Therapists with body treatments which is where her love of body therapies began.

Upon returning to New Zealand Lorraine taught at Western Springs College Auckland for 13 years, Phys Ed, Junior Science, Senior Biology and was acting Senior Dean.  But in 1991 Lorraine decided to take a year off to study Beauty Therapy at Joyce Blok and loved it so much that she handed in her notice at Western Springs.

With a move to Nelson, Lorraine started “Body Ambience” specialising in Body Therapies in 1994. With the business quickly taking off  and winning the Nelson Chamber of Commerce Business Awards 2006, Lorraine was head hunted by local polytechnic NMIT to go start a Beauty and body Therapy course.  NMIT from 2006 to 2016 started with 6 month course and very quickly moved to one year course until we qualified for 2 year Diploma course, hence why there are lots of awesome Graduates in Nelson area now.

Setting up in 2016, Lorraine now concentrates on performing Advanced treatments that her graduates do not do from home, "They refer clients to me and I send them back for the fluffy stuff."

Louise Gray

NZ Clinic of the Year & NZ Medi Spa of the Year

 

As a therapist and the owner of the award-winning clinic Louise Gray Skin Care, Louise is dedicated to the industry.  Louise divides her time between practicing her craft, mentoring numerous industry professionals, as an educator/ trainer and previously a distributor of some of the most leading-edge technical devices.  As an Appointed Board Member of HITO NZ, an active member of the NZARBP and a Member of the Executive Committee for the NZARBP, she is proud to be involved in one of the most dynamic and diverse industries in New Zealand.

NZ Tutor/ Trainer of the Year

 

Margaret has an insatiable passion for people and learning. These drives have led her to pursue and excel in many fields over the years! She has achieved a number of qualifications, including: Bachelor of Education, Diploma in Teaching, Certified Post Graduate Trainer, International CIDESCO, CONFEDERATION Beauty Therapy UK (Honours), and ITEC Beauty Therapy (Honours) qualifications

 

After a very successful teaching career, Margaret decided to enter the beauty therapy industry, and went on to establish one of Auckland’s most awarded beauty therapy and hairdressing businesses; Face and Body in Titirangi.

 Margaret is now using her wealth of industry knowledge and passion to support other business owners in the beauty therapy industry, under her brand Margaret Walsh Consulting.  Her passion for education and learning have played a big part in her success with helping clients –she believes that life is about continual learning. She stays up to date with the latest beauty trends and tools, and is the only licensed Australasian distributor for the OBSERV Visual Skin Diagnostic Tool, a revolutionary product developed in Europe.

 As Secretary for the Global“International Corneotherapy Society”, Margaret’s skills in organising and motivating people are put to good use, and she has a strong desire to support the group’s success.

Maria Hyde Smith

NZ Spa of the Year

 

Maria’s professional background includes working at some of the UK’s leading spa and health facilities. She practiced as a beauty and spa therapist before moving into an educational role within the same field. After moving to New Zealand she managed and taught at a variety of training establishments including AUT University for 25 years. Maria has been involved in the wellness, spa and tourism industry at a national and international level. Maria’s continuing professional development incudes key note speaking at a variety of international spa and tourism conferences, contributing to industry working groups and publishing research on the connection of the spa and wellness sector to tourism.

Michelle Channon

NZ Therapist of the Year

 

A self-confessed “skin geek”, Michelle is well recognised in the Beauty industry as a specialist skincare educator. Internationally qualified, with over 30 years’ experience, Michelle continues to update her knowledge, learning from industry pioneers and innovators. Michelle combines her skin knowledge with her functional nutrition qualification to help unlock the mysteries of skin conditions.

With a desire for everyone to have the healthiest, best looking skin they can and empowering people to make more informed choices, Michelle is passionate about the Beauty Industry continuing to self assess and measure markers of improvement and success so the consumer gets the very best advice and treatment.

Nicole Carter

NZ Therapist of the Year

 

Since embracing our industry at seventeen years old, Nicole has seen the beauty therapy profession grow tremendously.  Her business, Beyond Beauty Invercargill which started life with only one treatment room, has grown into a thriving clinic with clients looked after by a team of 10 staff.  Nicole has been the Southland Representative for the NZARBP on and off for 18 years and sits on the Beauty Therapy advisory committee at the Southern Institute of Technology.  Nicole also sits on the NZARBP Executive Committee.

Oonagh Wolfkamp

NZ Tutor/ Trainer of the Year

 

Initially training in the UK in Beauty Therapy, Oonagh has had an exciting and varied career within Beauty Clinics (UK and NZ), Health Spa, own Beauty Business, Cruise Ship, Make-up Artist, Laser/IPL Clinic, Principal of an Auckland Beauty Therapy College, Lecturer and Programme Lead for Moderation.

Working within an educational environment has been a strong focus since moving to NZ in 1990, gaining further qualifications in both academic and professional disciplines. Learning and training with inspiring beauty professionals and academics has maintained the passion for the Beauty Industry.

Experience gained through teaching across various private training schools, Polytechnic sector, University and working as a Beauty Industry Assessor and Moderator has provided a deeper knowledge and understanding of the beauty discipline including invaluable experiences in self-evaluation and growth.

Oonagh has been a member of the Association and an Executive Committee member since 2002, and currently holds the Presidency.

Pauline De Thierry

NZ Cosmetic Tattooist of the Year 

 

Pauline De Thierry began her journey in the beauty industry in 2005 and has since trained in a range of traditional Permanent Makeup techniques. 

She has also been active in industry training and events, encouraging and strengthening the network between artists that is truly valuable for our industry development and advancement. 

Pauline is an industry advocate for both personal and professional development, empowering others to nurture our industry culture and strive for excellence. 

You will find Pauline in the small coastal town, Thames. Where she has built an award winning salon; Pamper Me MediSpa. A multi award winning business recognised by HITO Industry Awards, Beauty Industry Award Finalists, DMK Skin and Business Awards, and Regional Business Award winners. 

Pauline is honoured to have been asked to further support her Industry with Judging this Category and is thrilled to have this opportunity to support emerging artists.

Peter Willis

NZ Clinic of the Year

NZ Most Promising Therapist of the Year

NZ Student/ Apprentice of the Year 

 

Following a successful career within the New Zealand Police Peter did a complete U-turn and entered the Beauty Industry.

That was 20 years ago now and today, as Managing Director of Arrow Beauty Peter has seen Professional Beauty Therapy grow from strength to strength.

From humble begins Arrow Beauty has grown into a leading Industry Supplier with a passionate team of professionals all working hard for the betterment of our Therapists.

Passionate about our industry and a long-term supporter of our NZ Beauty Therapy Association Peter is privileged to bring his experience and knowledge to this year’s Judging Panel. 

An avid sportsman Peter has been a top-level Rugby Referee with Premier Rugby in New Zealand and Rugby 7’s overseas. These days he’s just a happy to Referee the lower grades or you’ll find him at the 19th hole.

As a Distributor Member of our Association I was extremely proud to be accepted as a Judge for this year’s awards. I have no doubt the calibre of entrant will be extremely high and I want to wish all those the very best of luck

Rebecca Field

NZ Therapist of the Year 

 

Rebecca has been involved in the beauty industry  for 26 years. Being a late starter to the industry she qualified in 1995 and went on to attend post graduate courses in advanced skin analysis courses, advanced electrolysis, Dr Vodder lymph drainage and Reiki. Rebecca had a clinic for 13 years on the North Shore in Auckland before joining a large beauty & appearance franchise, where she worked providing business support to the owners and product training to the beauty therapists. In 2015 she bought a Caci Clinic in the Hawkes Bay and now owns 2 clinics there and employs 12 staff. The beauty industry has been a passion for Rebecca and continues to fulfil her to this day.

NZ  Clinic of the Year

 

With a strong passion for anti-aging treatments, Micro-Needling, IPL and most recently training in Germany with Plasma Skin Tightening.  Susan has owned SkinSense Beauty Therapy Clinic in Devonport, Auckland since 1991.  She has not only been a member of the NZARBP since the early days but she has spent 4 years working on committee.
